Britain's Prince Harry was greeted by cheering well-wishers in the Bahamas on Sunday (March 4) when his military patrol boat docked on Harbour Island.

The prince arrived after conducting military exercises on board a Royal Bahamian Defence Force patrol boat.

Prince Harry steered the boat into dock and jumped onto the pier, where he was met by singing schoolchildren, local residents and church leaders.

The red-headed royal then hopped into a golf cart for a drive around the town.

Children escorted him back to the dock to bid him farewell and gave the prince two Bahamian flags to take home.

This is Prince Harry's first visit to the Bahamas, an independent nation that is part of the Commonwealth of Nations and recognizes Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.

The third in line to the throne, this overseas tour, which also includes stops in Belize, Jamaica and Brazil, is Prince Harry's first time representing the queen abroad.

Prince Harry will depart for Jamaica on Monday (March 5) and complete his tour in Brazil on March 8.

The Diamond Jubilee is being celebrated throughout 2012, to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's ascension to the throne.
