We are here on the right bank of the river Rhine and behind me is the Erpeler Ley. Below that Erpeler Ley are the remains of the Ludendorff Bridge. The famous Bridge of Remagen.
The whole area is full of basalt pits because this big area is full of old vulcans and their remains.
The story of the dozens of little narrow gauge Basalt railways of this are called vulcan-Eifel is an interesting one. Linz had one of those litte railways, too.
Further down the Rhine was the Heisterbacher Talbahn which was another interesting litte Basalt railway.
