In search of a funky brand of rock and roll to fill the electric nightlife of the Austin and surrounding area's clubs, singer/songwriter Scott Swanson teamed up with guitarist Matt "10 Piece" Court in 2002 and formed Motionside. The band was subsequently joined by bassist David James, drummer Richard Lee, and most recently saxophone player Mark Mikol. By combining thought provoking lyrics, groovy beats, and a mixture of musical styles, Motionside has only one real goal: to deliver a fun and entertaining experience.
Motionside released its first full length album 'First Color' in 2005. The album combined funky, dancy tunes along with some emotionally impacting tunes relating to the struggles of everyday life. In December, 2010 the band completed and released its second full length album 'Community Service'. This project continued the theme of attempting to combine as many feelings as possible into an hour of music broken down into 13 songs. Euphoria, anger, love, lust, fear, regret, ambition, failure, uncertainty, and gratitude are a few of the emotions that get conveyed through the band's music.
Having played over 120 shows over the years, Motionside continues to invent and re-invent itself as it moves forward. Playing for nothing more than the pure love and enjoyment of the combination of people and music, fans can expect more of the same as they look toward the future. Live the experience, Motionside.
