Ten police wounded in Istanbul blast

A remote-controlled bomb exploded outside the Istanbul headquarters of Turkey's ruling AK party on Thursday.

Ten police officers were wounded in the attack.

Istanbul's police chief said the device was placed on a motorcycle and was set off as a vehicle carrying 21 police officers drove past.

(SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) POLICE CHIEF HUSEYIN CAPKIN SAYING:

"It seems they used a motorcycle. The remote control bomb device was placed on a motorcycle. That is the information we have so far. Thank you."

None of those wounded are in critical condition.

Kurdish separatists, far left groups, far right groups and Islamist militants have all carried out bomb attacks in Turkey in the past.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for this latest blast.
