Indie-pop chanteuse Georgia Fields released her debut self-titled album to critical acclaim in October 2010.
The record sees Fields bravely combining the childlike naivety of experimental sounds (such as children's toys and cordless drills) with timeless strings, brass, and woodwind arrangements. Over two years in the making, the long-awaited album is being heralded as a pocket-sized orchestral wonder.
Fields made her entrance on the local music scene in December of 2007, with her independently released EP 'Drama on the High Seas of Emotion'. The title-track peaked at #4 on the Triple J Unearthed Pop Charts that year, and with each CD cover handcrafted from a Little Golden Book, Fields soon sold out.
Collaborating with childhood friend and esteemed cellist Judith Hamann, Georgia became quite the festival favourite, playing on numerous occasions for the Apollo Bay Music Festival, St Kilda Festival, and the Queenscliff Music Festival, to name just a few. She has supported iconic Australian artists Abby Dobson (Leonardo's Bride), Angie Hart (Frente!), Charles Jenkins (Icecream Hands), and alt-country supergroup The Wilson Pickers.
Thanks to funding from Arts Victoria, Fields was able to recruit a full cast of orchestral musicians for her album recording. Greg Arnold of ARIA- and APRA- award winning 90s folk-rock outfit Things of Stone and Wood was in the producer's seat (his recent production credits include Skipping Girl Vinegar and Triple J darlings 'Stonefield'). The record was engineered by David McCluney at Atlantis Sound in Port Melbourne (Nick Cave; Dan Kelly; Dave Graney; and The Drones), and mastered in Nashville USA by the legendary Jim DeMain (who's impressive resume includes Dolly Parton; June Carter-Cash; Patty Griffin; Justin Townes-Earl; Tim Finn; and possibly most exciting of all, the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack).
In November 2010 Georgia Fields was featured as "Album of the Week" for Radio National, Radio Adelaide, and Beat Magazine. In the same month, Fields was invited to be a special guest (alongside Kim Salmon) with The Rockwiz Orchestra at The 2010 Queenscliff Music Festival. Acclaimed singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch named Georgia as one of her 'recommendations' for 2011 in the recent February issue of The Age Melbourne Magazine, and JMag have jumped on the bandwagon, announcing "Fields is one to watch".
