Opposition supports Falklands stance

Argentina's opposition members unite and pledge their support for the government's position on the Falkland islands.

They met on Saturday(February 25) in the country's southernmost city and voted to endorse President Cristina Fernandez's stance.

Earlier in the week Fernandez said Argentina would register a formal complaint with the U.N. for what she called Britain's "militarisation" of the South Atlantic and the Falkland Islands.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) OPPOSITION SENATOR DANIEL FILMUS SAYING:

"For the first time in history ten political parties agree on ten points that have to do with recovering the Falklands. We are telling Great Britain to negotiate and act according to the United Nations resolution. Argentina, what it asks, is that through pacific dialogue and through diplomatic channels, we want to negotiate the conditions that all the world governments will take note of through the United Nations."

Britain and Argentina went to war over the disputed British-ruled Falkland Islands in 1982.

London rejects Argentine demands for sovereignty negotiations unless the roughly 3,000 islanders want talks to be held.
