Members of a US Senatorial delegation met with Tunisia's prime minister on Thursday, a day before Tunisia hosts a conference on Syria intended to bolster the Syrian opposition.

The delegation, led by Arizona senator and former presidential candidate John McCain, held talks with Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali and other members of the Tunisian cabinet in Tunis.

McCain, along with senators Lindsey Graham, John Hoeven, Richard Blumenthal and Jefferson Beauregard III, were on a tour of the Middle East visiting Egypt, Israel and Libya.

McCain has been one of the strongest proponents in Congress for arming opponents of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, where the government's crackdown on an uprising has killed nearly 6,000 civilians.
