Rio carnival celebrates African heritage

Celebrations are in full swing at Rio de Janeiro's annual carnival. Half the samba schools taking part in this years parades based their shows on Brazil's rich African cultural and religious heritage. Crowned 2011 carnival winners, Beija-Flor school chose to tell the story of Sao Luis city in the northeast -- a region steeped in African-Brazilian tradition. Vila Isabel school, meanwhile, paid tribute to Brazil's strong connections with Angola. Duration: 02:40
