Clash of the Athenians

Financial markets appear quite calm as investors hold out hope a Greek bailout deal could be announced before the workweek begins.

But in the streets of Athens, Greece, there was anything but calm (PAUSE) as a student protest escalated into a clash with riot-gear clad police.

Stone throwing by students upset with the government's austerity plan and police chases on foot filled the square in front of the parliament building…

And Greek students yelling at international lenders - telling the "IMF to go to hell" - as final details are being put in place for a $4.35 billion cost controls program in exchange for a second bailout.

Across town at a more peaceful protest, others citizens were worried about the impact the cuts will have on those students, their younger siblings, and families in general.

Father Panagiotis is one of the protesters:

9. (SOUNDBITE) (Greek) FATHER PANAGIOTIS SIPSAS, 44, SAYING:

"It is a catastrophe for the working class, because families will be left without day-care when they want to go to work. At the same time the Housing Organization helps families with rent, with housing. It has an important social role to play."

But students were less cerebral in their demonstration, which resulted in at least three arrests - and one angry dog.
