Tank set ablaze in Zabadani

Amateur video footage obtained by Reuters shows Syrian rebels attacking a government tank and setting it ablaze in the mountain resort town of Zabadani.

Activists say the video was filmed on Friday February 10.

Zabadani, north-west of Damascus and near the Lebanese border, was under the control of Assad's opponents for several weeks before being stormed by government troops earlier this week following a sustained tank and artillery bombardment.

Other amateur video - this time from a social media website, and which Reuters cannot independently verify - purports to show shelling in the Baba Amro district of Homs.

Activists say at least four people were killed on Thursday by Syrian army bombardment, which enters its thirteenth consecutive day.

Residents and activists also claim Syrian troops attacked the border town of Deraa, near Jordan.

The attack comes a day after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad promised a referendum and elections, and follows a push against the rebel strongholds of Homs and Hama in an attempt to crush the 11-month uprising against Assad's rule.
