BALCONYTV DUBLIN 9/01/2008
PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
2008 saw the release of the debut album by Dublin born/Madrid based singer and composer Ian Michael O'Carroll. Entitled 'BIRTH', the album demonstrates an eclectic mix of music styles; from the 'four chords and half truths to R&B beats coupled with folk sensibilities with a pop edge, with just a healthy dollop of hard rock and big chourses'.
The 10 song album, produced by Peter Slankster from The World Of Good, was recorded in Creamy Sonic Studios in Dublin City Centre and Mastered by the hugely talented and experienced engineer Richard Dowling of Wav Mastering in Limerick.

The album has guest appearences by a number of different artists, namely Sharon Reid of Lotusland, Gary Tyrrell of HiRise, Dave O'Carroll of Auto Safari and the guitar 'virtuoso' Colm 'Rocklegend' Mulvey. Such varied collaborators helped make 'BIRTH' become the menage of mood, tempo & rhythm.

One of the album's key strength's is it's versatility and unpredictability...from an operatic, big chours, power chord rocker such as 'Blindfold' to the R&B slow beats of 'The Other Man', the Pop/Funk vibe of 'We've Got A Something' abck to the straight ahead 'scream-a-long' no nonsense 'Rags', with a 'wouldn't be out of place on an R.E.M. album' track such as 'Comes With Time' kicking things off and the piano/strings emsemble 'Manana y Siempre' bringing it to a low key close, the album is nothing if not a good show case of different tastes and styles weaved together with melody and a distintive voice.
