Violence in Syria spreads north to Aleppo

Under fire in Homs according to video posted to a social media website. The military assault on the city didn't let up on Friday despite condemnation from world leaders.

On the same day, the bloodshed spreads north to the city of Aleppo, where twin bomb blasts killed 25 people in the worst violence to hit the Syrian commercial hub since the protests began.

Syrian State television aired these images from the local hospital which purports to show men injured by the attack. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks which Damascus has routinely characterized as the work of foreign terrorists. Reuters cannot independently verify the content of this video.

Residents in both cities staged rallies against the government which appears to have been emboldened by the UN Security council's failure to pass a resolution over the weekend.

President Bashar al-Assad has ignored appeals from the U.S. Turkey, Europe and fellow Arab nations to end the violence and step down.
