Morgan Freeman gets top German film award

There was no shortage of celebrities at Saturday's (February 2) golden camera awards in the German capital Berlin.

Actors Denzel Washington and Scarlett Johansson were both there to pick up their best international acting awards and even Miss Piggy put in an appearance.

Washington said he was relaxed about the evening's ceremony:

"I know I won already so there is no anxiety. So I am just here to have a good time and enjoy the show: I have never been to this show before so I don't know what to expect. Just to have a good time."

When it was time to pick up his award he even tried a few words in German to say thank you:

SOUNDBITE Denzel Washington, actor, saying (German):

"I thank you for the golden camera. Many thanks Berlin, many thanks Germany!"

Scarlett Johansson who was awarded best international actress revealed she already knew where to put her prize:

SOUNDBITE Scarlett Johansson, actress, saying (English):

"Absolutely- I don't have anything gold. I have something a little bit bronze. I have something a little bit antique gold and now I have something nice and shiny for the bookcase."

But the evening belonged to veteran actor Morgan Freeman who picked up a lifetime achievement award. His most recent role was that of former South African president Nelson Mandela in the film 'Invictus'.

In his acceptance speech Freeman reassured fans that the award did not mean that it was time to retire.

Fellow artist Dionne Warwick also received a lifetime achievement award in music and treated the audience to a special performance.
