Nigeria copes with aftermath of attacks

The shells of burned out cars and buildings line Kano, Nigeria's streets after violent attacks by an Islamist sect.
The sect, Boko Haram, has claimed responsibility for the Friday gun and bomb attacks that targeted police stations and killed nearly 180 people.
The group said it was avenging the arrests and police killings of its members.
Nigeria's military is patrolling the streets of the northern city and a curfew is in place in an attempt to restore order.
(SOUNDBITE)(English) MAJOR GENERAL EMMANUEL ABEJIRIN, COMMANDER 3 BDE NIGERIAN ARMY, SAYING:
"My men have taken over the security of the town and our patrols are more or less for confidence building to reassure the people that Kano is safe and that what happened was just an isolated case."
President Goodluck Jonathan has been criticized for not responding quickly enough to the sect, whose attacks are growing in scale and numbers.
