Authorities call for calm amid South Sudan violence

The U.N. had issued warnings about a pending attack ignited by tribal conflict and had urged the government of South Sudan to act to protect civilians.
South Sudan vice president REIK MACHAR TENY called for an end to the cycle of violence.
"When you talk about someone's mistake, do not commit the same mistake. You can not say that you are going to take revenge or destroy a whole community," said Machar.
The UN says dozens were killed in the attacks. It is now urging communities in the region to end ethnic violence and engage in a peace process.
South Sudan split away from Sudan in July under a peace deal that ended decades of civil war. But the young, oil-producing country has struggled with multiple armed uprisings.
