EU Dev Days 2011: Better bad elections than no elections?

  • il y a 13 ans
Are even bad elections valuable steps on the road to democracy?

In many places of the world, holding elections which conform to international standards of fairness is a lofty and unachievable aim. We have to ask ourselves: are elections really black and white matters which fit into one of two camps? Perhaps the reality is rather a progressive scale? If we endorse imperfect elections are we helping a nation in its long road towards democracy or are we perpetuating injustice and bad practices? Such provocative questions as these help to make European Development Days Europe’s premier forum on international affairs and development cooperation.
