Rioters attack liquor stores in Iraqi Kurdistan

Intense riots break out in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
The destruction began after Friday prayers, when one religious leader spoke out against the sale of alcohol.
Protesters then went on a violent rampage, burning more than 30 liquor stores and bars, and damaging three hotels.
A pro-Islamic party office was subsequently attacked as well, according to authorities and witness testimony.
The Kurdish region in the north of Iraq has enjoyed more stability and security since becoming largely autonomous in 1991, and has been governed by two ruling parties since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Both parties condemned the riots, and denied any involvement in the violence.
