Higher life expectancy: drivers and effects

Watch the full 25-minute video at http://www.goldmoney.com/muenz-turk-interview. Prof. Dr. Rainer Münz, Head of Research at Erste Bank, and James Turk, Director of the GoldMoney Foundation, talk about increasing life expectancy, which on average is increasing by about six hours a day at the moment. The key drivers behind this development are better nutrition, improvements in medicine and better sanitation. While events like the world wars or the appearance of HIV did not prove to have a lasting effect on population growth, the fertility rate has. As soon as the world fertility rate falls below two children per family, the world population will stop growing. Münz therefore prognoses, that world population growth will definitely come to an end this century, in spite the increase in life expectancy.
