Qantas: Government to intervene

The Australian government says it will take action to intervene in the protracted Qantas industrial dispute after the company announced on Saturday it was grounding all flights.
"What's going to change is that Fair Work Australia are receiving an application for intervention, and I think that, I would hope that the parties to the dispute act like adults, and acknowledge that there is a common interest here between Qantas management and its employees," Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said.
Qantas said in a statement that from Monday evening it also would lock out all employees over a dispute with the engineers association, pilots, catering and ground handling associations.
The row with the engineers, pilots, catering and ground handling associations over pay and cost-cutting plans has seen strike action since September.
