Sophie Scholl: The Final Days is a must-watch. White Rose is formidable but in a sense quite ordinary. I would just shake their hand. The ones who should be highlighted every February 22nd are the ones who watched from the sidelines. White Rose exhibited not a rash act but a normal human impulse to protect life. Reading the lowest common denominator, lives were at stake and they stepped in.
In any repressive regime, there is a Sophie in its midst. 21 year old Sophie was the heroine of the White Rose, the anti-Nazi resistance movement. The film is made from documented testimony found in East German archives.
