STORY: A number of Colombia's Caribbean coastal cities have been inundated with floods after hours of sustained heavy rains.
Cartagena, some 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of the capital Bogota, was hard hit Tuesday, with floodwaters affecting homes and roads in the city.
According to Cartagena's Mayor Judith Pinedo, the town has been affected not only by heavy rains in the area, but also from high volumes of water from other areas, including Turbaco.
Turbaco, a stream in the northern Andean region of Antioquia has an average elevation of 808,024 meters (2,651 feet) and is known for its extremely high risk of flooding.
Meteorologists blame this season's La Niña phenomenon for the heavy rains.
Authorities say there have, so far, been no reports of injuries or missing persons.
According to Colombia's Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies La Niña rainfall effects are significantly above recorded averages in the country's Caribbean and Andean regions.
