Home Décor: Kids' Room Design Ideas - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. The most important thing you should consider first when designing your kid's room or your baby's room is, what are the materials and finishes that you are putting in the room. You want to look for natural materials like wool or silk carpeting, and use organic cotton sheets. Also look what is in the furniture. Where did the furniture come from? What is it made of? What are the glues that are holding the furniture together? Does the wood have formaldehyde in it? These sound like technical questions, but if you bring it up to your manufacturer, they will be able to answer them for you. And you want to make sure you have a healthy environment for your children. The first thing when laying out the room is to consider the crib or bed location. And you want to locate the crib or the bed in the most draft-free, quietest part of the room. So locate the crib away from the entry, away from a window, away from a door out to a balcony. Just use common sense and locate it in the quietest part of the room. After you have located the crib or bed, you can lay out all the other furniture around it. One of the other most important things is, do not use the Sesame Street, primary colors in your kid or baby's room. I think we all think of those colors as being kid's colors, but they are actually very stimulating and they are not appropriate for a child's room. So, I am not saying you have to go to the pinks or the blues or the cliche baby colors either, but something that is more soft or pastel is really the right color to use. Also look for furniture that can grow with your child. Something like this changing table that is also a dresser. When you no longer need the changing table for your child, you can slide it right off and the dresser actually grow with your baby. So, look for natural materials, look for locally made products, look for organic products, and look for things that can grow with your baby, use soft colors, and you should have a perfect room that your child can grow with for years to come.
