Mike came to Hablitat Addiction Treatment Center after spending 7 years in prison. Here he speaks about overcoming Meth addiction and his new direction at Habilitat.
Unfortunately, there was no treatment for his addiction in prison. In fact, his habit got worse behind bars. He makes reference to Arizona, where Hawaii Prisoners are sent to do their prison time. Its cheaper to send them to private, for profit, prisons on the mainland than to keep them incarcerated here in Hawaii. The fact is, each inmate cost Hawaii tax payers $100/day to keep in jail here. Habilitat cost around $14/day.
Why doesn’t the state send more people to places like Habilitat? Good question. Common sense says our brand of treatment works. To quote Habilitat’s Founder… common sense isn’t so common anymore.
