Cervical Spine Vertebrectomy Corpectomy with cage + plate orthopeadic 3D animations. You will be lying on your back. Your neck will be cleaned. An incision will be made and the overlying muscles moved to the side. Your windpipe (trachea) and gullet (esophagus) will be retracted with the muscles to reveal the front, or anterior, of the spine. Your surgeon will confirm the correct vertebra for removal by using x-ray imaging. Any anterior vertebral body bone spurs (also known as lipping or osteophytes) will be trimmed to increase access. Pins will be screwed into the vertebral bodies and used to open up the collapsed disc spaces to regain normal spine alignment. The inter-vertebral discs will be removed. Any posterior vertebral body spurs may be removed and the vertebral body endplates are prepared for the graft. Then the vertebral body will be channeled.
