A bus driver was killed and 22 passengers injured after a bridge collapsed in southeast China on Thursday. The 12-year-old bridge is a vital traffic link in Wuyishan City.

A bus driver was killed on Thursday when a bridge collapsed in southeast China's Fujian Province. The bus he was driving crashed, injuring 22 of the passengers on board.

Local authorities say the tourist bus was driving onto the Wuyishan Gongguan Bridge in Wuyishan City in the morning, just as a section of the bridge collapsed.

The injured passengers were taken to the hospital.

The arched steel bridge is almost 990 feet long and 59 feet wide, and is a vital link between the Wuyishan Mountain Resort and Provincial Highway 101.

The bridge took three years to build and cost $2.6 million. It opened to traffic in 1999.

The cause of the collapse is unknown.
