The Orsay Museum - Paris , France

The Orsay Museum (French: Musée d'Orsay ) is a museum located in Paris , France , dedicated to the visual arts of the nineteenth century and especially famous for its funds of Impressionism . Chronologically, it covers the history of art from old masters (who are in the Louvre Museum ) and the modern and contemporary art (at the Centre Georges Pompidou. History With a background certainly regal (Marguerite de Valois garden and palace), the space now occupied by the Musée d'Orsay was not released until the end of the early nineteenth century and early twentieth centuries. The land on which was located at the time known as the Palais d'Orsay, a grass fire in 1871, was ceded by the State Railway Company Orleans just before the start of the 1900 Universal Exhibition, was inaugurated to start dates of both the hotel and the station (which will remain 39 years in employment). After several different applications which will run in time to the 70's, the French government will finally take the decision to dedicate the building to the museum (it wanted to prevent its demolition and also was necessary to move the collection of Impressionist, still this a good solution.) In 1973, the Directorate of Museums of France conceived the project of establishing a museum in the Orsay railway station , threatening ruin and there was talk of building a hotel. The decision was prompted by the resurgence of interest in the nineteenth century, the station being recorded in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments on March 8, 1973. The refurbishment of the station into a museum was carried out between 1981 and 1986, taking charge of exterior remodeling-ACT study Architecture and interior installation team by Game Aulenti. However, the official decision to build the museum did not come until the Council of Ministers of 20 October 1977, apparently by initiative of the President, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing . The truth is that, as a building that responded to iron architecture, partly favored approaches to adapt to today's museum. Will empty the whole structure of the vast central nave to arbitrate a narrative sequence of an artistic period that enabled a reading, while annexes space used to host other services. The center was opened in 1986 , after the refurbishment carried out by the architect Game Aulenti . The official opening took place on December 1 of that year by the President of the Republic, François Mitterrand , opening to the public on 9 November. The three plants into which the building houses a unique collection of art from the nineteenth century and twentieth centuries, from various museums, arranged chronologically, and has priceless works of great authors of history of art as Delacroix, Degas, Millet, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Latour, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Seurat and Derain, among many other examples consist of architectural projects, decorative objects, drawings and photographs. In 2009 it has undertaken a renovation of the museum, which seeks to provide different colors to the walls of rooms and reorganize many of them. Taking this opportunity, and to raise funds, the museum is providing important groups of works to be exhibited outside France. One of these selections, with important works by Impressionists , has come to Madrid in January of 2010 under sponsorship of the Fundación Mapfre , which, it seems, has paid three million euros for the loan.
