Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet has formally adopted plans that will make Germany the first big, global, economic power to turn its back on nuclear energy. The government's green light follows last month's decision by Berlin to phase out the nuclear sector by 2022 in the wake of Japan's Fukushima disaster.
