And now we go to India's largest prison, where jail branded products are helping prisoners get on the straight and narrow. "Made in Tihar Jail" goods are teaching thousands of inmates vocational skills and helping them prepare for life on the outside.

South Asia's largest prison is helping inmates make it on the outside thanks to its "Made in Jail" brand.

The Tihar Jail in New Delhi is using the "Made in Tihar Jail" vocational training program to prepare inmates for a fresh start once they've served their time.

All kinds of goods ranging from crispy potato chips, to formal shirts, school desks, and herbal products are sold under the TJ'S (Tihar Jail) brand.

One of the convicts on the program says the skills he's getting inside the prison will help him find work on the outside.

Life outside the jail is tough for inmates who have to counter the stigma of being in prison - seen as a place for social outcasts and hardcore criminals.

This prison official says the idea behind the "TJ'S" label was to break these taboos and channel the inmates' energy constructively.

Sharma said the "Made in Tihar" products had a turnover of almost 3 million U.S. dollars last year.

The target for next year is an ambitious $5 million U.S. dollars - which shows the growing acceptability of the jail brand.

This inmate, serving a life sentence, says that the skills inmates learn on the program will help them earn a living legally.

[Mohammad Sajid, Tihar Prison Inmate]:
"The advantage of doing all this work here is that once we get outside we can start earning through honest means and leave the path of crime."

Jail authorities say their products are popular with buyers because of their good quality and competitive pricing.
