Reacting to the killing of world's most wanted militant Osama bin Laden, Islamic clerics in India criticize the U.S. saying the West used Laden for its own political gains. They also say Pakistan knew of the slain leader's whereabouts.

Commenting on the killing of world's most wanted militant Osama bin Laden on Monday, Islamic clerics in India criticized the United States by saying Washington exploited bin Laden for its own political benefits.

Bin Laden was killed in a U.S.-led operation, involving helicopters and troops early Monday morning.

Officials said bin Laden was killed inside a mansion near a Pakistani military training academy in the town of Abbottabad.

Pakistani officials are now under pressure to explain how he could have lived so close to their capital.

Adil Siddiqui, spokesperson of an Islamic seminary at Deoband in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh shared his organization's views on the killing with the media.

[Adil Siddiqui, Spokesperson, Darul-Uloom Islamic Seminary]:
"In order to serve its own political purpose, the United States of America used Osama bin Laden against Russia. After its purpose was solved, they stood against him. America follows the policy of 'Use and Discard' and subsequently they applied the same policy on Laden."

Just ten days ago, Pakistan's Army chief General Ashfaq Kayani addressed cadets at the academy located near where bin Laden was killed.

He said the country's military had broken the back of militants linked to al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Pakistan's government has not commented on the operation, raising questions about how much it knew in advance.
