How to Make a Hemingway Daiquiri - part of the exotic cocktails video series by GeoBeats. Hi I'm Scott Mayer. I'm the mixologist here at Miami's oldest bar in Cabaret, Tobacco Road. Alright, so this is a Hemingway Daiquiri, interesting story behind this drink. It's named of course for Ernest Hemingway, and as many know Ernest Hemingway was an avid drinker. And later his life he was diagnosed with diabetes, and he was unable to drink sugary drinks. So the bartenders that knew him and loved him came up with a version of the Daiquiri for him that was sugar free. And instead of sugar what they used is Luxardo, which is a Maraschino liqueur, made from cherries, about a half ounce of that. The rest of the drink is about the juice of about half a lime, the juice of about half a grapefruit, and dark rum. This drink is then iced down. Shake it in a cocktail shaker, and garnish with a dash of Angostura Bitters. Then strained into a martini glass. I like to garnish this one with a little piece of lime on the edge here, and this is our Classic Hemingway Daiquiri.
