“ A lot of companies go out and build an airplane, and then they try to sell it. We go out and we sell an airplane and we understand what the customers want and then we build it... This is going to be an airplane that changes the world once again.“

Announced in 2005, the 747-8 is the 4th generation of the 747 line. It’s Boeing’s largest ever passenger jet, but boasts the lowest operating costs. Boeing has introduced new technologies to the jet, including engines from General Electric. The 747-8 Intercontinental is also the most environmentally friendly jet in the world, consuming 11% less fuel per passenger than the Airbus A-380.

Vice president and deputy program manager Elizabeth Lund says the plane was produced with its customer in mind and passenger can expect more comfort in the air.

“It's one of the most recognizable shapes in the world. But, when they get inside they will know they are on a brand new airplane. It has a new interior, big high ceilings, new lighting, different stow bins and side walls, it's inviting, the lines look completely different."

For structural engineer Mike, the 747-8 Intercontinental is the result of years of dedication.
