In City Hall today, many supporters of The Peace Week organization, including acclaimed artists and politicians, gathered to share their support on the alarming increase of tragic deaths caused by the use of guns.

Main representative for the Peace Week organization, Erica Ford, has been working tirelessly to raise awareness on the doubling number of lives that have been lost to gunshot violence in the past 2 years.

[Erica Ford, Peace Week Representative]:
"One of the greatest and most effective gifts we can give to our children during these times is to invest in organizations that keep them alive. According to the New York Daily news and the New York com-stat, there was a 13% rise in homicide last year. 92% of those victims as well as the killers were black and latino."

[Joanne Solo, Lost Her Son Landell to Gun Violence]:
"On December 4th, 2010 he had a fight and went out to make peace with the person, and in exchange for peace, he got killed. I just feel so unfair to everything that's happened because I gave my son morals, ethics and education."

[Shenne Johnson, Lost Her Son Kendrick to Gun Violence]:
"I'm speaking for my son who was on his way to college. I'm determined to continue the help so we won't have other mothers crying."

Acclaimed entrepreneur Russell Simmons and hip-hop artist Jim Jones also stepped forward to share their concerns and raise awareness of this urgent cause to more New Yorkers.

[Russell Simmons, Philanthropist and Entrepreneur]:
These community members that died, they want to become news worthy. How fearful do you think these kids may be in these communities.
