And a new way of celebrating Christmas Eve in Shanghai this year. Around six hundred young people got together at a night club for a massive pillow fight. Let's take a look.

Christmas Eve was anything but peaceful in Shanghai. With rock and roll music playing, people took up pillows and swung them in the air at one nightclub.

The organizer of the event says pillow fighting is a way Chinese can relieve pressure and reduce stress.

[Cai Jun, Pillow Fight Organizer]:
"In China, a pillow fight is a novelty. It is a softly violent way to release pressure, after a whole year's work. So it's welcomed by white collar workers and young people."

More than 800 people registered, who were mostly between 20-30 years old. But the number of participants to around 600 for security concerns.

For some who took part, it was a special way to say goodbye to a year's hardships.

[Sun Jun, Participant]:
"I am a university student and it's impossible to feel no pressure from the intense academic study. This kind of soft violence can help release my stress. It can also help office workers release some pressure too. I think the event is quite cool."

Others just say it is a fun way to celebrate Christmas.

[Wei Zhongzheng, Participant]:
"I think it's meaningful to take part in such a crazy activity. My friend organized us together. I come here with my friends to enjoy ourselves and celebrate this festival."

One thousand pillows were used. The fight lasted for around 30 minutes and left a messy aftermath.
