Weekend of blizzards and snow in Midwest America

Americans living in the nation's Midwest are still digging out of as much as 2 ft of snow after a weekend of snow.

The storm has been crawling across the midwest since Friday night.

Wind chills were below zero in many places, and schools in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and other states shut down because of the weather conditions.

The -11 degrees Celsius temperatures in Detroit didn't stop hundreds of fans from lining up hours before free tickets to Monday night's football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants became available at Ford Field. The game was moved to Detroit after the Metrodome's inflated roof collapsed on Sunday under the weight of heavy snow. Officials from the city's Metrodome stadium were trying to repair the roof in time for the Vikings' next home game on December 20 against Chicago.

In the Chicago area, only a few inches of snow fell, but wind gusts of up to nearly 50 miles per hour blew the roof off a building at Navy Pier, cancelled more than 1,600 flights at the city's two airports on Sunday and forced many homeless people to seek refuge from the bitter conditions at local shelters.
