In the near future, visas for Ukrainians wishing to visit the EU may not be necessary. During the EU summit in Brussels last month, Ukraine was given an action plan for abolishing visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens willing to make short-term trips to member states of the European Union. These details now from our correspondent in Kiev.

Roman has just received one more Schengen visa - to Poland. He travels frequently and says he has never met any problems with obtaining European visas, but the procedure is not pleasant.

[Roman Palamarchuk, Tourist]:
"Generally speaking, of course, it is bad that you have to go through a lot of formalities to go to another country. I know that in general it is not the most pleasant process, and many people are forced to abandon the trip due to the fact that they do not get a visa."

Perhaps in the near future visa requirements for Europe will be a thing of the past.

At the EU summit in Brussels last month, Ukraine was given an action plan for abolishing visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens making short-term trips to member states of the European Union.

And the Ukrainian government hopes it will be possible to travel to Europe without a visa from 2012.

According to the State Service for Tourism and Resorts, this year nearly 13 million Ukrainians have traveled abroad, mainly for tourism and business trips.

With the cancellation of the visa regime, Ukrainians will be able to visit those countries that signed the Schengen Agreement in 1985.

But the final decision will be made by the European Parliament on the basis of whether the Ukrainian side has met all the requirements.
