Tributes to late Leslie Nielsen

Tourists walking along Hollywood Boulevard have been pausing to take photographs of the walk of fame star of comedic actor Leslie Nielsen, who died of pneumonia complications near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Although Nielsen's acting career spanned over 60 years, he is best known for his famous line "Don't call me Shirley," as Dr Rumack in the 1980 movie Airplane, as well as for his Lieutenant Frank Drebin in the slapstick comedic franchise, The Naked Gun.

As flower arrangements were placed by his star to commemorate his death, fans could not help but lament his death and affectionately recall his most memorable roles.

"Everything I've watched just made me laugh. He was just a very funny man and very enjoyable" said Carlo Castellano of Melbourne, Australia. "And he made a lot of people laugh and he made a lot of people happy and I think that's what he wanted to do in life. He just wanted to make people laugh and be happy and he succeeded in that."

Nielsen's roles were widely acclaimed as was evident through the array of fans that gathered in his honour.

"It's too bad, he was a very good actor and, apparently, he was in the middle of a new project but now we won't be able to see the finished product," said French fan Carole Eon, who was happy to have had the opportunity to walk by his star. "But, he was a great man of cinema so, of course it's sad to see him go."

Nielsen was 84.
