Putin asks for help to name new puppy

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is asking citizens to help him name his new puppy.

The three-month old Karakachan dog was a gift from Mr Putin's Bulgarian counterpart after Moscow and Sofia signed a series of accords to boost the South Stream gas pipeline.

A government statement on its official website said anybody could send in a suggestion for the dog's name.

News of the contest received a mixed reception from people on the streets of Moscow.

One commuter said: "I won't be taking part in the contest because I am not concerned about the President's dog. There are many more serious things to ask the people of this country. I won't be taking part."

The puppy will have to share the spotlight with Putin's beloved black Labrador Connie, who is 11.
