With established franchises such as Tony Hawk and Skate already on the market, developers need to bring something new to the table if they hope to improve upon the skating game genre. Luckily, Mattieu Begin and Nick Harper of Ubisoft Montreal seem confident that their latest project, Shaun White: Skateboarding, is up to the task. Begin and Harper describe the team’s effort to re-create Shaun White’s original vision, inspiring the game’s new “influence” mechanic. The surrounding environment changes in response to a successfully landed trick or combo, providing players a new way to incorporate the world around them into their dream trick line. Rails can also be extended or manipulated to link to another section of the environment, letting the player’s imagination run nearly without limits. Begin also explains the different approach taken for the Wii version of the game. From balance board support to competitive multiplayer modes, the Wii version aims to take advantage of the specific strengths of the console. Shaun White: Skateboarding is on store shelves now and available for the PS3, 360, and Wii consoles!
