Indonesia's Mt. Merapi Volcano Continues to Erupt

Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano spewed more lava on Friday, prompting more residents to flee.

Local officials evacuated hundreds more villagers living around the slopes and extended the danger zone.

Some volunteers also set up a public kitchen to feed the thousands of evacuees.

"We have enough food but we lack utensils. For rice and vegetables, we have enough until the next 10 days."

Sources say a small volcanic tremor was registered when the volcano started erupting Friday morning. And thick dust spread to villages around the volcano.

More than 40,000 people have fled or been evacuated from Merapi's slopes in the past few days.

Tents, school buildings and sports halls became temporary shelters. And soldiers have been helping to evacuate residents.

A series of massive eruptions have left 32 dead and blanketed surrounding villages in ash.
