For thousands of years, mythical beasts have captured the human imagination. This exhibition uses paintings, life-sized models, fossils and cultural objects from around the world to shed light on the ways people have been inspired by nature to depict strange and wonderful creatures. Models of a giant Kraken, a three-metre unicorn, fossils that inspired the tales of griffins, dragons and the Cyclops, and more. Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids is organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (www.amnh.org), in collaboration with The Field Museum, Chicago; Canadian Museum of Civilization, Gatineau-Quebec; Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney; and Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta.
