Air by John Dowland (1993 played by F.H.)

John Dowland (ca 1563-1626) composed this little "Air" over the tune of the ancient ballad "As I went to Walsingham", which was very popular in it's time. Walsingham in Norfolk(England) has been a place of pilgrimage since the 11th century. It was suppressed in 1538 as part of the Reformation in England, today it is considered as "England's Nazareth" again.

But the subject of the original ballad is about longing and flirting, such as sometimes happens even on the occasion of pilgrimages...
