Bratislava gunman leaves six dead

A gunman in the Slovak capital has gone on the rampage, killing six and wounding at least 14.

The news agency said the shooting took place midmorning on the streets of the Devinska Nova Ves neighbourhood on the outskirts of the Slovak capital.

It said the man, who has not been identified, opened fire on passers-by and shot through windows into buildings.

Local media reported later that the shooter may have killed himself, but police would not immediately confirm the report.

Dominika Sulkova, a spokeswoman for the Bratislava emergency medical service, told said that seven people were dead - four women and three men - and 14 others had been wounded.

She could not confirm that the shooter was among the dead.

Emergency crews blocked off the scene and authorities urged people to stay indoors.

Police made no immediate comment on the attack.
