Hamburg celebrates first ever Beatles gig

Musicians will be marking a milestone by recreating the first ever gig played by The Beatles in Hamburg.

The Fab Four played their very first concert at the Indra club on August 17, 1960, and helped shape the Hamburg sound of the next two-and-a-half years. Exactly 50 years later Hamburg honours their exceptional contribution to the history of pop music with a string of events.

Horst Fascher, the man who brought the Beatles to the city and owner of the legendary Star Club, introduced The Beatles to the Hamburg music scene.

"I saw the reaction of the young people who were following The Beatles. The Beatles made the Star Club famous but the Star Club was the big jump for The Beatles to be world stars."

Beatles fans from all over the world can experience one of four concerts of New York band Bambi Kino, who will play at the still existing Indra in Hamburg from August 17th to 20th.

Bambi Kino, consisting of members of internationally renowned bands such as Maplewood, Nada Surf, Moby and Cat Power, will bring pop history back to life by re-creating exactly the same songs the Beatles performed during their very first concert in Hamburg.
