VICTOR ROMERO AND NORMA GALLA ALMAGRO, 1997

From the private collection of Alberto Paz and Valorie Hart, this is the way natural milongueros danced during an exhibition. The place is the historic club Almagro, the occasion was the celebration of the reopening of FM Tango, and the date was Saturday, April 5, 1997.

Victor Romero and Norma Galla were milongueros from the neighborhood of Savedra in Buenos Aires.
Victor, who passed away in 2000, had been dancing the orillero style for more than 40 years. The style, often misconstrued and sadly misunderstood consists in the use of lots turning figures usually afforded by the available space in neighborhood clubs in the outskirts (orilla) of the city.
Victor as well as another unheralded milonguero, the late Nestor Ray, were featured dancers in the BBC's 1989 documentary "Tango Mio."
