Survivors of the Love Parade stampede have come forward with eyewitness accounts of the tragedy.

The death toll from the disaster at a dance music event in the German city of Duisburg rose to 20 on Tuesday.

Christoph Hardona, who was one of the more than 1 million people who attended Saturday's festival told how he was being "squeezed against the wall and there were dead people who were squeezed together among us."

He added: "They were dead but they were not lying on the ground because it was so cramped. They were standing but they were dead."

Details of an official memorial event for the dead are due to be released on Wednesday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to attend.

German football clubs Duisburg and Schalke have agreed to stage a benefit game in memory of the victims.
