'Brangelina' accept damages over split claims

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have accepted undisclosed damages over false allegations about their private life.

The couple's case was being heard at London's High Court but neither were present.

The case centred around claims published in the News of the World in January that said they were separating, using the headline "Pitts all over".

The newspaper had said the couple visited a divorce lawyer in December 2009 to begin thrashing out a deal, and come to an agreement over dividing assets and custody of their children.

Lawyers acting on behalf of 'Brangelina' said the publication constituted a serious misuse of private information.

"In this case we can confirm unequivocally, and upon instructions, that the allegations published by the News of the World are false as well as intrusive."

The High Court heard the paper, whose case was that it acted in good faith, has agreed to publish an apology and pay costs and damages.

The money is set to be donated to the Jolie-Pitt foundation.
