Academy Award-winning director and producer Peter Jackson has opened a new "King Kong 360 3-D" attraction Universal Studios.

Jackson, who was the creative force behind the ride, directed the 2005 "King Kong" film remake starring Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black. It is the fourth-highest grossing film in the history of Universal Pictures.

Celebrity guests and members of the public gathered at the theme park to hear a pre-record message from Jackson and have a go on the ride.

Jackson welcomed the crowd and talked about how he got involved with the project.

"When Universal asked me to bring back King Kong, I was delighted because as you're probably aware, the King Kong movie doesn't really lend itself to a sequel because Kong plummets off the Empire State Building at the end."

The crowds of guests rode off in trams after the speech to experience the ride for the first time.
