Cheryl Cole launches divorce proceedings

Cheryl Cole has begun divorce proceedings against her footballer husband Ashley Cole.

Her PR confirmed the news on Twitter, adding there will be "no further comment".

In a surprise move, it is thought she will let the England and Chelsea star keep their £6 million mansion.

The Girls Aloud singer launched the action on Tuesday and it is believed she is keen for a quickie divorce.

According to reports The X Factor judge does not want Cole distracted as England prepare for the World Cup.

The pair seperated in February following a string of tabloid reports about Ashley's personal life.
