Friends and relatives mourn Pakistan family

Relatives in the United Kingdom have reacted with great sadness to the news that a British couple and their daughter were gunned down in a graveyard in Pakistan over a 'family dispute' about their son's arranged marriage.

Mohammad and Pervaze Yousaf and their 22-year-old daughter Tania, from Nelson in Lancashire, were in Pakistan for the wedding of another son, 24-year-old Asad, when they were shot.

Eileen Ansar, who is married to Mr Yousaf's cousin Mohammed, said the shooting had devastated the family.

"You can't appreciate that someone can ring up and tell you that half of the family has been completely wiped out. It's not just one member of the family, it's the mum, the dad, the sister. They've took (the) complete backbone from the full family." she said.

Local MP Andrew Stephenson read a statement on behalf of the family saying authorities in both countries were trying to help the remaining family come to terms with events.

In total, the gunmen killed five people in the attack near Gujrat city in Punjab province on Thursday. The family's host was also killed, as was one of the gunmen. Police say the gunman could have been killed accidentally by a fellow attacker.

According to police, the family feud started because Yousaf's son was married to the sister of one of the attackers in Britain 12 years ago, but their marriage broke down and led to a separation that caused rivalry between the families.

Gujrat police said one of the attackers has been arrested, and they were hunting two others.
