Strong Earthquake Rattles Indonesia

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia's Sumatra island today. So far, there are no reports of casualties or damage.
An earthquake with a 7.7 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Aceh on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday. There have been no immediate reports of casualties.
Sources say there was panic, and electricity was cut off in Sinabang Island, south of Aceh (AH-chay).
People rushed to higher ground in some areas.
The quake struck early Wednesday morning… it’s epicenter around 130 miles from Medan, the largest city on the island of Sumatra.
Sources say there were at least three aftershocks.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially warned the quake could generate a local tsunami, but later cancelled the tsunami watch.
In December 2004, a 9.15 magnitude quake off the coast of Sumatra's Aceh Province triggered an Indian Ocean tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and nine other countries.
